Reading fluency poster
Reading fluency is the bridging strategy between decoding and comprehension.
It is defined as reading at a good pace, with expression and accuracy.
Both the New Zealand and Australian curriculums identify reading fluency as an important skill to explicitly teach and for students to practice.
The reading fluency poster visual shows the success criteria for reading fluently.
“Scientific research has consistently recognised the critical nature of fluency as a bridge between effortful decoding and comprehension. A fluent reader is one who can accurately and automatically decode words.”
