How do we ensure students have ‘eyes on text’ during reading time? Louise will introduce reading fluency and breakdown how it fits into the reading process. She will then share practical strategies for explicitly teaching reading fluency and supporting students to develop fluency in their reading.

This workshop is based on a reading fluency project that Louise led in a Year 3 cohort. She targeted 12 ‘at risk’ readers and the teachers trialled engaging fluency activities during whole class and group teaching. They also planned independent activities that supported reading fluency. The target students all made accelerated progress, as did the other students below the expected level in the classes.

This workshop will cover:

  • An introduction to reading fluency and why it is important
  • Strategies for explicitly teaching reading fluency during whole class teaching
  • Practical activities to support students to develop reading fluency

Teachers will receive a free reading fluency poster and a handout including all the activities used in the project.

More information and a code to join this workshop will be emailed to attendees closer to the time.
